Renovation scheme for municipal business customers

The Storting has decided that businesses that have household-like waste must sort out food waste and plastic packaging from 2023. ReMidt also offers sorting of glass and metal packaging, so that your unit can have the same source sorting solution as households in the region.

The background for the change is national and international goals to combat food waste, increase recycling and reduce climate emissions. The new recycling solution is one of many measures to reduce the municipality's own climate footprint.

There will be separate bins for food waste. The food waste can be placed directly in the bin without a bag, if you wish, but we strongly recommend using bio bags distributed from ReMidt.

Bags and sacks

The subscription comes with bio bags and/or protective bags in relation to the size of the can. We can offer the ordinary bio bag of 10 liters that households use. We also have an inner plastic protective bag for the can, which can be changed if necessary, so that cleaning is easier.

Yes please:

  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Fish leftovers, shellfish
  • Meat leftovers, bones
  • Eggshell, nutshell
  • Coffee grounds, coffee filter, regular tea bags
  • Tissue paper
  • Other food scraps

No thanks:

  • Nappies and sanitary products
  • Potted plants and cut flowers
  • Snus and cigarettes
  • Cat litter and dog bags
  • All other waste that is not food waste

What happens to food waste?

Food waste is used as raw material for the production of biogas and nutritious biofertiliser. This happens at Ecopro AS in Verdal. The biogas is converted into fuel and electricity, while biofertilizer is distributed in agriculture. Ecopro AS is a high-tech biogas plant that processes food waste in an environmentally friendly and future-oriented way.

Glass and metal packaging

We also offer our own cans for glass and metal packaging. This should be placed directly in the can without a bag.

Yes please:

  • Jam jars, sauce jars, baby food jars
  • Drinking bottles without deposit
  • Hemetics boxes
  • Drink cans made of metal, without deposit
  • Bottle caps and metal lids
  • Metal tubes (e.g. mayonnaise, spread cheese)
  • Aluminum cup and aluminum foil

No thanks:

  • Dirty packaging
  • Packaging for hazardous waste
  • Glass and metal that are not packaging (e.g. light bulbs, batteries, drinking glasses, crystal, porcelain, refractory forms, frying pans, cutlery, window panes, mirrors, tools)

Why just packaging?

Glass and metal used in packaging often have different properties than those used in, for example, window panes, fireproof glass and frying pans. Today we do not have the technology to recycle all types of glass and metal together. Glass and metal that has not been packaged must still be delivered to the recycling station.

What happens to the glass and metal packaging?

This waste is sent to a recycling facility outside Fredrikstad. There, Sirkel Glass AS operates a new and modern plant for the recycling of glass and metal packaging. Glass and metal packaging can be used as raw material in new production of glass and metal products. 1 kg of submitted metal packaging can, for example, yield 1 kg of nails. Recycled glass is used as raw material for both Glasopor foam glass and Glava insulation and is exported to glassworks in Europe, where new glass products are made.

Plastic packaging

Plastic packaging is collected in separate bags. These can be purchased at ReMidt.

Yes please:

  • Fish and meat packaging in plastic
  • Plastic carrying bag
  • Shampoo bottle
  • Grape goblet
  • Ice box
  • Bubble wrap

No thanks:

  • Dirty packaging
  • All plastic products that are not packaging
  • Empty wood sack
  • Mixed packaging
  • Our municipal business customers can also use their own press to compress the plastic packaging. Consult ReMidt to hear about the possibilities and price for this.

What happens to the plastic packaging?

All plastic packaging from ReMidt sent to recycling facilities in Germany. As of today, there are no recycling facilities that handle volumes of this size in Norway. The plastic packaging is sorted into 7-10 different types of plastic, before it is granulated and sent to manufacturers of new plastic products.
