Glass and metal packaging

With the introduction of a new waste disposal scheme in ReMidt all subscribers will be given a separate can for glass and metal packaging. Only dispose of cleaned glass and / or metal packaging, such as jam jars and cans. The can is emptied every 6 weeks. This scheme is mandatory and can not be opted out. The return points for glass and metal packaging will eventually be removed.

What can you put in the can?

Below we have listed a number of household items that one would like to sort at source, divided into "yes thank you" and "no thank you". Remember that the packaging must be clean and placed loosely in the can, do not use plastic bags.

Yes please:
  • Jam jars and the like (sauces, baby food)
  • Drinking bottles without deposit
  • Cans
  • Metal drinking cans without deposit
  • Bottle caps and metal lids
  • Tubes of metal (mayonnaise, cream cheese)
  • Aluminum cup and aluminum foil
No thanks:
  • Dirty packaging
  • Packaging for hazardous waste (spray cans, paint buckets)
  • Non-packaging glass and metal:
    • Light bulbs, fluorescent lamps, battery
    • Drinking glasses, crystal, porcelain
    • Refractory glass molds,
    • Frying pans, cutlery
    • Window panes, mirrors, tools
    • Irons, metal hangers
    • Toys, garden furniture
Why just packaging?

Glass and metal used in packaging often have different properties than those used in, for example, window panes, refractory glass and bicycles. Today, we do not have the technology to recycle all types of glass and metal together. Glass and metal that has not been packaged must still be delivered to the recycling station. Today's return point located in the municipalities will eventually be removed.

What happens to the waste?

It is sent to a recycling facility in Fredrikstad. There drives Circle Glass AS one of the world's most modern facilities for recycling glass and metal packaging.
Glass and metal can be used as raw material in new production of glass and metal products, 1 kg of delivered metal can e.g. give 1 kg of nails. Recycled glass is used as a raw material for both Glasopor foam glass, Glava insulation and it is exported to glassworks in Europe where new glass products are made.
